30. A Friend

Yes, I know, horrible exposure.  Thanks Mom and Dad for sitting on the wrong side of the table.

And yes, I know, they aren't really my "friends," but today, being Mom and Dad's 33rd anniversary, was a family day.  They took us girls out for dinner at Olive Garden, then over to the mall.  I guess since they spend lots of time by themselves their idea of a perfect anniversary was hanging with their girls!

... if you really want a "friend" picture, I could post another one of Allie.  ;)

29. Soft

Yes, another Allie picture.  But she is the softest cat I've ever met, and seeing as I spent 5+ hours in a car today, the softest thing I came in contact with.  Especially right underneath her ears.  :)

28. On the Shelf

What's on this shelf is not nearly as important as what isn't.  See the empty spots on those shelves?  Now push the binders to the left and the pile of folders to the right a bit.  Those empty spots used to be home to two huge boxes worth of catalogs from the early 2000's - instruments, formal wear, theatre licensing, new music promotion, and most importantly, music technology supplies.  Talk about outdated.

... although, I do have to admit our tech guy wins.  On his shelf today, he found a user guide to surviving Y2K.

27. Bathroom

Of all the rooms in my house, this is my absolute least favorite.  The tile is old and always looks dirty even if you've just cleaned it.  And don't even get me started on the monstrosity of a claw foot tub and the tiny shower stall.  But this shot is typical of what our counter looks like on any given day, with the addition of my wisdom teeth prescription mouthwash and Em's toiletry bag.

26. Where I Shop

I am here WAY too often.  This is what you get for living in the middle of nowhere - your one-stop shop.

25. Something Cute

Today I hung out at Camp Hebron with Elisia and baby Josilyn!  I'd say she qualifies as "something cute."  She's so close to crawling, and a pro at rolling over!

24. On My Mind

My Little was on my mind today - I knew it was her last sermon at Green Village, and based on her official "goodbye" service, it was bound to be emotional!

22. From a High Angle & 23. Movement

Have do two at once since Relay took up my entire day yesterday!

I know it doesn't look like I took this from a high angle since I'm not looking straight down, but I promise I was on the top row of the bleachers at Halifax High School!  This was during our Luminaria ceremony at Relay for Life, and is probably the most fitting picture I could post.  :)

My team members were on the committee and they were super busy, so I spent a lot of time hanging with my Life Skills kiddos.  Here they are walking during the Pink Glove Lap.

21. Where I Slept

My bed.  Stripped a bit.  It was hot last night, so goodbye comforter.  And yes, I did make it before I took this picture.  Can't have that.

20. Fave Photo I've Ever Taken

This is a hard one.  I don't know if I have a crowning photo that is my all time favorite.  Not to mention I only have some of my photos on my current computer and the rest are on an external hard drive that I'm too lazy to get out.  I'll share a few:

This one is a favorite because of who is in it with me <3 and because I took it in the Gershwin Theatre after one of the ushers yelled at people for using cameras.  Surprise!  :)

This one is a favorite because it's the very first one I ever took of Allie, a few minutes after we got home on the day I rescued her from the ASPCA.

This one is a favorite because of the way the lighting looks.  My girl is so beautiful!

I could go on and on but that's good for now.  :)

19. Imperfect

I'm still taking medications for my stupid wisdom teeth.  Grr.  Holes in my face are the biggest imperfection in my life at the moment.

18. Something You Don't Know About Me

Most people know that I scrapbook, but not may know that I cross-stitch, too.  My mom taught me when I was younger.  Although I confess that I don't enjoy cross-stitching pictures, I do enjoy playing with waste canvas and cross-stitching on towels and the like.  The picture above is a sneak peak of a good friend's wedding present that I finally finished (11 months late).

17. In My Bag

There are a few things I'll never be without, and most of them are visible in this picture!

  1. My laptop, and its cute "Plum Petal" Vera Bradley case.
  2. My planner - or in this case, planners.  Without a visual hard-copy to-do list, I forget everything.
  3. A USB drive, because you never know when you'll need to move files.
  4. Keys on a lanyard (in this case, my work keys).
  5. A Pocket-Bac from Bath & Body Works.
  6. And of course, wallet, cell phone, etc.  Those just aren't visible.  :)

16. Out and About

Shhhh!  It's a secret!  I braved the morning without heavy-duty pain medication so I could go to JoAnn.  Horrible, I know.  But I couldn't stay in the house all weekend without going completely crazy.  The last few days were bad enough!

15. Yellow

Today, I finally left the house for the first time since my surgery, because Em was awesome and came and got me so I could go to Camp Hebron's commissioning ceremony.  This is the sign she worked really hard on this week, illustrating the theme of this year's camps.  I love the yellow sun!

14. Time

Time is more meaningful today than many other days.  Every 30 minutes I need to alternate icing my face and giving it a break... and let me tell you, the 30 minutes without ice are torture.  Every 4 hours I can take more pain medication.  Every 6 hours I need to take more of the antibiotic.  If you've had your wisdom teeth out, you understand.  If you haven't... trust me, you don't want to unless they hurt in the first place.

13. Art

I'll admit, I was going to take a picture of the art in the oral surgeon's waiting room, because that stuff is crazy.  It's obvious by their waiting room how much they make off of 30 minute surgeries like mine.  However, I forgot, because I was super nervous.  Understandable, right?  I settled instead for taking a picture of a Monet print I got at the Smithsonian last year when I went with Ron and the HUM kids to DC.  My first real "art" that's not a photograph, aren't you proud?

12. From a Low Angle

Getting down at normal "Allie-level" made me understand why she chooses to sit in weird places like on top of my TV.  It's probably nice that she can look at me at my eye-level, without me picking her up! Silly girl.

11. Door

It may not look like much, but this door is the entrance to my first real "home" since I moved out of Mom and Dad's.  Sure, I've had apartments, but this is a house.  A "big girl" place, with a yard, and a carport, and a garden.  And an upstairs.  Very thankful!

10. Best Bit of My Weekend

The best part of my weekend?  Easy.  Megs came and we got to scrapbook!  It'd been a while since I'd had that much time to devote solely to scrapbooking, and between the two of us we got a lot done.  Mind you, she stayed until Tuesday, so it wasn't just the weekend, but still.  :)

9. Your View Today

Today I went to work with Em so we could shop for capris and shorts and hit up Home Depot.  It's nice, actually, because I get a lot of work done while sitting in Starbucks.  More than when I sit at home, in any case!  As I look across the plaza, I see Em's store.  Not a bad view on a Saturday!

8. 6 O'Clock

It looks very lazy, I know, but if you'd spent the entire day with 39 teenagers teaching marching basics and trying to help them memorize a parade tune, you'd be collapsed in a recliner at 6pm, too.  Especially if back-to-back episodes of Bones were involved.

7. Drink

Ron came to visit me yesterday and goes, "You're coming tomorrow, right?"

And I said, "Umm.  Where?"

"To lunch, with our girls."

"Tomorrow?"

"I didn't tell you?"

"Uhh.  No."

So, despite the busyness of Mini Camp (13 new kiddos!!) I called and ordered my lunch to-go, then when I went to pick it up, sat down for a half an hour with Ron and our newly graduated HUM girls.  How I love The Special Place.  The carafe of soda they bring you is heavenly - no need to ask for refills when you have all you'll need right there!

6. Hat

Today was our first day with no kids.  Ashley came down and we decided on the musical for next year - "Oklahoma!"  I've been thinking it'd be a good one for our area since I started, so it'll be fun to put it on stage... And the costumes will be much easier than Cinderella!

I spent the afternoon cleaning the marching band storage room, getting the graduated seniors' uniforms ready to go to the dry cleaner's, and compiling a spreadsheet of all the uniform sizes with their corresponding number to make it easier to fit the new kids.

In the end, I couldn't decide what hat to choose, so we went with both.  And seeing as I typically look terrible in hats, I actually think this one is pretty cute!  :)

5. Sign

The sign out front of school marks all major landmarks - concerts, vacations, and end of year celebrations.  The seniors have waited all year for the sign to read this, and it's finally here!  Graduation day.  Congrats, Class of 2012!  Thanks for the memories.  :)

4. Close-Up

This is the time that, at this point in the year, we are all dying to see.  Our eyes are locked on the corner of the computer screen until it finally ticks over to 2:45.  Sweet release!  When the kids leave at 11, and you have the afternoon all to yourself, you count the minutes.  You would not believe how much longer the day seems when you don't have kids to entertain you.

3. On My Plate

It's going to seem like a tangent, but it'll make sense in a minute.  Today was pretty emotional for me.  I spent an awesome weekend at my Little's, catching up on the last few months, cuddling with Isaac...  And as I drove home, it hit me that that's what I want.  I want a partnership with my best friend like she has with Andrew.  I want a baby that looks at me with eyes full of trust and the knowledge that I brought this little soul into the world.  It's hard for me, knowing this and not seeing it in the near future. But I have faith that God has a plan and that someday, the wait will be totally worth it.  So anyway, I came home still shaken, and Em's like, "Let's get pizza."  Since I didn't feel like eating anything, I said sure - I mean, she was paying, so why not?  But the awesomeness of Pizza Delight's chicken bacon ranch pizza won out, and I did eat.  Ahhh, sweet comfort food, how terrible you are for me, but at least you make me forget about my woes for a while.

Photo a Day

So I'm going to challenge myself.  I'm going to start doing Fat Mum Slim's "Photo a Day" challenges, to give me ordinary every-day life things to scrapbook.  You can find her list for June here.  Let's see how this goes!

1.  Morning

This is the sight I wake up to most mornings.  My beautiful kitty-girl comes to cuddle with me, normally before my alarm goes off.  But it's okay.  There are worse ways to wake up than to a friendly chirp and purring.  :)
