31. Myself

I don't particularly like selfies.  I tried to be creative, like so many others I saw, and wasn't happy with any of them, so I settled on this one.  Considering I had a terrible headache after a terribly long day, I don't look too shabby.  :)



Song Challenge Day 6 - The earliest song I can remember from my childhood.

Carly Simon's "The Stuff that Dreams Are Made Of."  Back before CDs and iPods (I know, the horror!), Mom would have the radio on while she made dinner and the like.  I loved this song and would sing to it at the top of my lungs - "It's the stuff that dreams tomato."  And if you listen, in defense of my child-self, it really does sound like that!

Song Challenge Day 5 - Song that gets stuck in my head the most.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great song to run / work out to, but I get really annoyed when I'm still singing it 3 hours later.

Seriously, I think Sara Bareilles must have been in my head when she wrote this album.  "Uncharted" is from this album as well, and here's one of my other favorites.

This looked so picturesque out the window of the Y, but with PA's lack of treating roads and the beginnings of a snowstorm, I didn't dare get close enough for a better shot.

No song until Monday - I don't make my kids do homework over the weekend.  I'm such a nice teacher!!

Grandma's flower arrangement from us grandkids was actually potted plants, and we each got to take one home.  Here's hoping I don't kill this one.


Song Challenge Day 2 - least favorite song

I don't care how old you are, when your song is the same 5-6 words over and over, and the same 3 "notes" over and over, it's not cute.  At all.  This song makes me want to puncture my eardrums with a fork.  And seeing as I need my ears to make a living, that's a pretty big deal.

Today marked the first day of the new semester, a new crop of piano kiddos, and the start of another Music Appreciation class.  One of the projects we're doing is an ongoing "Song Challenge."  You may have seen it on Facebook before, and can view our take on it here.  But, since I'm giving my kids almost daily homework, I figured it was only fair to do it myself as well.  So, Day 1's prompt was "your favorite song."

Sara Bareilles' "Uncharted" has been at the top of my playlists since it came out.  My favorite line is "Compare where you are to where you want to be and you'll get nowhere."  And she's right - you have to actually go out and make life happen, not just sit around and wait for something to happen to you.

And today at one o'clock I was catching up on emails, paperwork, grading, and getting ready for a meeting with my boss.  Good times!

Today starts a new year of Photo-a-Day.  I've been enjoying it a lot so far - it's interesting to capture everyday life, and Chantelle's prompts make it so much easier, and way more fun.  You can check it out here or on Facebook here.  So, without further ado, here goes 2013!
